How to you start your mornings?

How do your mornings start?

The tone of your day is set the minute you wake up. Think about it…if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed being grouchy and made at the world, your day will probably continue with a chip on your shoulder.

The elephant in the room
If there’s things that are still on your mind, take some time to regroup and decide how you are going to handle them. Maybe you need to have a talk with someone, or maybe you still need sometime to think about the best response.

Take off social media
I was going to say turn off, but take off is much better. If the first thing you do is check social media to see what your friends did over the weekend, this might not be healthy behaviour. If you are too caught up in someone else’s world, tune into your world.

Reach for something besides the phone
I’m guilty of this, especially when I need to see the time and decide if I should wake up. I started out the year reaching for a book instead of the phone. It was nice to have positive motivation in the morning and not the distraction of the phone.

Take time for yourself
I wake up to the alarm and then start getting my daughter ready for school. It can start as a bit of a rush – making sure she gets up, me fully waking up, making coffee, making lunch and getting dressed.

I’m not a morning person, but I could try to wake up before and enjoy my morning and then be more refreshed when I start the hustle and bustle of the day. Maybe do some journaling in have my coffee.

Breakfast, the most important part of the day
We’ve always heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have something quick, but nutritious. I’ve always wanted to try overnight oats (oats are also packed with happy ingredients). I’ll do a bagel with cream cheese and salmon for that added protein.

Have a morning mantra

What’s a mantra? It’s a saying that you can repeat over and over. A good morning mantra that you can say to yourself, first thing, would be something like, “Today will be a great day” or “today is the start of something amazing.” Keep your mantra positive and uplifting.

Get in a good morning stretch
My dogs stretch every morning and they are on to something. Stretching first thing in the morning can relieve any tension or pain from sleeping the night before. It also helps increase your blood flow and prepares your body for the day ahead.

Wake up on the right side of the bed instead of the wrong
Have a smile on your face, happiness in your heart and a grateful for the day ahead of you. Don’t wake up grouchy! If you start your grouchy day, then that grouchiness may continue.

If somethings not working change it
When I’d have to get up early for work on cold mornings, it wasn’t easy to roll out of my warm bed. So, for a few minutes of snuggle time, I started showering at night so I could have more time.

When my daughter stays up later than she should, she has a hard time getting up in the morning. So, I make sure that she’s up and ready for her morning.

If picking out clothes takes too much time in the morning, do it the night before. The same can go for making you child’s lunch – just do it the night before.
