Over the years, many energy drinks have started to call themselves healthy drinks when there aren’t any institutions that back them up. My personal opinion is that no energy drink is healthy since they primarily contain ingredients like caffeine or sugar that can have detrimental effects on your health.

However, I do think it’s possible to pick an energy drink that has the least health risks. These would be the brands that have minimal caffeine, sugar, and calories.

Celsius is marketed as a fitness drink with thermogenic properties. It contains 200 mg of caffeine, B and C vitamins, and no sugar and calories. Meanwhile, Monster Energy is a classic energy drink brand that comes with 160mg of caffeine, 190 calories, and 54g of sugars.

Just off these details alone, you can get the sense that Celsius may be better for your health. I agree with this but let’s look a little deeper, shall we?

As long as you don’t have any complications that prohibit you from drinking energy drinks, you should be OK. Having them only when needed will not result in serious health problems.

Celsius has 200mg of caffeine per can, while Monster has only 160mg.

If you need the motivation to exercise, caffeine can help you with this. Don’t you know that caffeine can enhance your mood to exercise and boost cognitive functions? No wonder you can get a surge of alertness for coffee alone.

Because you’ll likely be more awake than your current state when you haven’t taken any caffeine, I bet you wouldn’t waste that just to sit around the corner.

However, some individuals have a high tolerance to caffeine, which means they need a much higher dose of caffeine to feel its effects. If you’re one of them, it’s better for you to go with Celsius.

Celsius Vs. Monster Sugar

Celsius is sugar-free, while Monster has 54g of sugar. According to this article, the amount in Monster might be dangerous to your health. Because you only need 30g of sugar per daygoing above that level can result in sugar crashes.

Whether you are taking energy drinks for a game or a physical workout, a sudden drop in your energy wouldn’t be suitable for your performance.

This is why the FDA advises it’s only safe for you to have up to 400mg of caffeine per day. If you happen to take more than what’s recommended, you’ll suffer from caffeine overdose.

On the other hand, too much sugar can give you extra weight. According to this study, there’s also a high chance of kidney disease.

How Do You Know if an Energy Drink is Healthy?

First of all, you’ll need to have a look at the nutrients and other ingredients of the energy drink. Make sure you’re taking sugar and caffeine at a safe level.

Check if the energy drink is vegan-friendly or suitable for a keto diet. Vegan-friendly energy drinks use plant-based ingredients. I also suggest you look up its other contents and check whether the dosage is in line with it.

Because water is the healthiest beverage of all that you can think of, I’m siding with consuming powdered energy drinks. Consuming powdered energy drinks can help you with your water intake and keep your body hydrated.

Is One Energy Drink a Day OK?

Experts say that if you would take energy drink every day, limit your consumption to only one can or serving. This is because if you take too much, the artificial contents inside it could build up and harm your body.

Other articles suggest that it’s still OK to take even two energy drinks per day. Anyway, I think you should only drink more than one serving if it contains a low amount of caffeine and sugar.

What Happens if you drink 3 Cans of Monster in a Day?

In this case, you’re more vulnerable to caffeine and sugar crashes. It could lead to caffeine toxicity, resulting in tremors and chances of strokes.

You might consume them expecting a jolt of energy, but there’s a chance that it might backfire and cause complications. On the other hand, if you rely on the power they can provide you, you’ll be dependent on them.

One symptom that you’re energy drinks dependent on is that you consume too many of them on the same day. Another is when you suffer from headaches every time you skip your energy drinks session.

While you can’t remove this instantly, you can recover from it by cutting your energy intake little by little every day. One day you’ll wake up and won’t feel the need for it.

That’s why you should only consume energy drinks when it’s necessary.

Is Celsius the Healthiest Energy Drink?

I cannot really say that Celsius is the healthiest energy drink. Sure, it has vitamin C that’s good for your immune system and B Vitamins that can help you maintain good health. Plus, it’s vegan-friendly.

However, if I want to consume Celsius, I usually go with the powdered version. Its powdered version is called Celsius On-the-go.

It has the same content as the canned version and it’s more flexible since it allows you to control your dosage much more.

Monster has this version that also has 160mg of caffeine. This is by far the healthiest Monster version and still has the signature Monster flavor!

By the way, Monster Energy has a lot of variations, and this one doesn’t have any sugar and calories. Also, you can have this one in different flavors.

Red Bull

Red Bull has less caffeine and sugar than Monster or Celsius. It has 80mg of caffeine and 27g, that’s actually near the limit. It’s a good thing it’s not that much than what Monster has.

This energy drink is popular in any sports event worldwide. Therefore, I think even if it has a low amount of caffeine, it would still work fine in enhancing your performance. Before I forget, Red Bull has a sugar-free version as well.

So, if you’re not comfortable with its sugar content, you can still have the same beverage, just minus the sugar.

It can’t be denied that Celsius is suitable for activity because of its caffeine content. Plus, the micronutrients can enhance your mental performance too, so that all sounds good to me.

In my opinion, if you are going to drink it every day, you better keep it to one can a day only!

Follow cooking directions on pasta package, allowing pasta to remain slightly undercooked. This will help keep the pasta from falling apart in the salad. Drain and rinse with cold water until pasta is completely cool, then drain well again.

How to Know Which Energy Drinks are Healthy?

I’ve come up with a checklist of things to look out for in a good energy drink brand that won’t harm your health!

Low on Sugar

If an energy drink has a high sugar level, that’s not a healthy energy drink for you. Sugar is a common ingredient in an energy drink. That’s because it can give you a quick energy boost and a good taste experience.

However, I don’t think you must look for high sugar content. Because you consume too much sugar, it can lead to sugar crashes. That would go against your workout routine and fitness goals because it can lead to weight gain.

This article advises you to keep your sugar consumption at 30g per day to prevent that. So, I guess the lower the sugar amount is in an energy drink, the better option it could be. However, some energy drinks don’t use natural sugar but instead artificial sweeteners.

Artificial sweeteners are FDA-approved and suitable even for people with diabetes. Moreover, they can also prevent you from gaining extra weight because they have no additional calories.

Low in Caffeine

Just like sugar, the lesser the caffeine amount is, the better. Some energy drink brands have high caffeine content, while others keep it low.

This actually has its own pros and cons. For example, too much can lead to caffeine crashes, wherein too low can make you feel no power boost at all. However, It mostly depends on your caffeine tolerance and the intensity of your activities for the day.

I don’t think a 30-minute jog would require lots of caffeine. But if you’re going weightlifting, then I guess two cans of energy drink would be enough. Just take note that the highest level of caffeine you can find in an energy drink is 300mg, such as Redline Xtreme Energy and G Fuel.

This is actually in the warning level because the recommended amount of caffeine you’re only allowed to take is at 400mg set by the FDA. If you consume over that amount, it could lead to Headaches, anxiety, and even fever.

Other Ingredients

In addition, energy drinks contain other ingredients like taurine and B vitamins for an extra energy boost.


According to this study, taurine combined with caffeine can boost your mental performance. Most energy drinks contain 1000mg of taurine.

This might scare you because it’s such a high amount. However, taurine is beneficial to your body by lowering your blood pressure and calming the nervous system. Because of this, It’s safe to take up to 3000mg of taurine per day.

Vitamin B

In addition, the Vitamin B complex helps prevent infections, Thus strengthening the health of your cells. Other than that, it could also support the following:

  • Red blood cell development
  • Energy levels
  • Good eyesight
  • Healthy brain function
  • Smooth digestion
  • healthy appetite
  • Nerve function
  • Hormones production

There are also energy drinks that use herbal supplements such as ginseng and guarana. The extract you can get from these two has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Just like caffeine, ginseng is also linked to increased alertness and reaction. On the other hand, guarana has caffeine in it. But aside from that, it also contains theophylline and theobromine, which are mild muscle relaxants.

How Much Energy Drink Should You Take Per Day?

According to this article, it’s safe to take two servings or two cans of energy drinks. However, I think that would depend on its contents.

In case you’re a kid or pregnant, you need to avoid energy drinks at all costs. Otherwise, energy drinks can be harmful to you. That’s why you should consider taking natural beverage for your health and the health of your baby instead.

Aspire is a healthier choice because it’s sugar-free and has a low caffeine content at only 80mg. With 80mg of caffeine, Aspire could give you a fair lift, as well as a boost on your mental concentration.

These lemon fat bombs, or meltaways, make a great quick afternoon snack. I should warn you—you really have to like lemons to enjoy these tart treats.

Servings12 cubes


  • 1⁄2 cup cashews (raw)
  • 2 . maple syrup
  • 2 . lemon juice (fresh, plus more to taste)
  • 1⁄2 cup coconut oil
  • Pinch sea ​​salt


  • Place a baking sheet lined with waxed paper in the freezer OR use silicone ice cube trays.

  • In a blender or food processor, blend or process the cashews until finely ground.

  • Add the maple syrup and lemon juice and pulse a few times.

  • Add the coconut oil and salt. Puree until smooth and creamy.

  • Drop 1⁄2 tablespoonfuls of the cashew mixture onto cold baking sheets or into silicone trays. Return the pan to the freezer. (Depending on the size of the baking sheet, you may have to make the lemon bombs in batches.)

  • When the drops are solid, peel them from the waxed paper (or pop out of the tray) and store in the freezer in an airtight freezer container.



  • Going keto? You can swap out the maple syrup for a dash of stevia.
  • Have fun with these! Use your fav silicone mold to shape them into fun shapes, especially if they will be party food.
  • If you want to use a high powered blender to make these, feel free to double or triple the batch.

The name “Ginseng” is derived from the Chinese term “renshen,” which means “ginseng root.” Ginseng is mainly found in North America and eastern Asia, such as Korea, Bhutan, and East Siberia.

Full Throttle energy drinks should be taken in moderation to avoid adverse side effects. I’d recommend no more than two or three cans each week to keep tabs on your total sugar consumption.

Red Velvet Smoothie Recipe

I like blending my smoothies in two steps for the smoothest result. First, blend spinach and coconut milk (canned or carton, your choice) until smooth. If you’re not using a high-speed blender, then whip the canned coconut milk before adding to the blender to stir the fat into the liquid.

Then add the strawberries (frozen), Medjool dates, beet, cacao powder and vanilla extract to the blender. Blend until smooth.

If you’re serving this as a dessert, feel free to add a dollop of coconut whipped cream to the top and turn it into a festive shake.

Tips for the Best Blend

To ensure the Medjool dates are thoroughly blended, let your blender run on medium speed for a bit, then slowly increase to high. If you’re using a non-high-powered blender, swap the dates with maple syrup for an easier blend.

Canned coconut milk (full-fat or light) gives you a milkshake texture. The beet adds the iconic deep red velvet color. You can also swap it with beet powder.

Using frozen strawberries ensures a refreshingly cool red velvet smoothie, or you can refrigerate before serving (give it a good shake).

The Best Blue Lagoon Mocktail (With a Healthy Version)

This beautiful blue mocktail is non alcoholic and tastes just as good as it looks. With a healthy and classic version, you can enjoy this virgin blue lagoon in any way you please.

I’ve had so many requests for a blue lagoon mocktail over the last 18 months but I never quite knew how to approach this drink. A traditional Blue Lagoon has blue curaçao, lemonade and vodka – so essentially full of sugar and booze. It doesn’t really fit with my motto of ‘drink yourself healthy’.

So I went on the hunt for other ways to recreate this classic and ended up with a healthy-ish version and a not so healthy version. Both are just as simple as the original, and just as delicious too!

Note: the mocktail in this post is the healthy version made with blue spirulina. If you use the blue curacao syrup, the tint of blue will be slightly different.

What Does a Blue Lagoon Mocktail Taste Like?

When it’s made properly, this classic drink will taste refreshing and sweet. With it’s delicious flavor and striking colour, it’s like capturing summer in a glass.

If you’re a sweet tooth, you’ll love the original (aka ‘not-so-healthy’) version of the recipe. To be honest, it’s a touch too sweet for me, I much prefer healthy, low sugar mocktails.

The healthier version is still sweet (it’s made with sugar-free lemonade), but not as sweet as the original. Blue spirulina gives the drink it’s incredible colour, making it a perfect blue mocktail recipe for baby showers. Always consult your doctor before taking spirulina while pregnant.

How to make it

The classic version

A classic blue lagoon is made with blue curacao syrup, lemonade and vodka. It’s usually served in a tall glass with a tropical fruit garnish.


  • 1 tablespoon blue curaçao syrup
  • 1oz/30mls of your favorite alcohol-free spirit, preferably non alcoholic vodka (optional)


Pour the blue curaçao syrup and the alcohol-free spirit of your choice (if you’re using it) into your glass and slowly top with lemonade. Stir gently, add ice, garnish, and serve.

The healthy version

Healthy blue spirulina creates that iconic blue color in this recipe. With low sugar lemonade and your choice of alcohol free spirit, this easy mocktail can be whipped up in minutes.


  • 1/2 teaspoon blue spirulina : I buy mine from health food shops and it can also be purchased online.
  • 1 cup sugar free/low sugar lemonade
  • 1 shot of your favorite alcohol-free spirit (optional)

If you don’t like the idea of ​​using lemonade, any pale liquid will work. Think tonic water, pale kombucha, etc.

Place the blue spirulina in your glass then add the lemonade. Stir gently. You might find the drink foams up a bit as the 2 ingredients react with each other, so just scoop the foam out – although my boys thought this was ‘supercool’ and wanted to eat it instead!

Add your favorite alcohol-free spirit if using and stir again.

Add ice, garnish, and serve.

Is blue curaçao syrup alcoholic?

I am regularly asked – does blue curacao have alcohol? While the liqueur blue curaçao is alcoholic, most blue curaçao syrups are non-alcoholic. They add the color and flavor of the liqueur without any alcohol. Be sure you check the label on the brand you choose though just in case.

What type of glass should I serve a Blue Lagoon Mocktail in?

The traditional glass for this classic cocktail is the hurricane glass. This is sometimes referred to as a tulip glass. If you don’t have a tulip glass, try a highball glass instead.

What garnish should I use?

There are many ways to garnish your virgin Blue Lagoon, the sky really is the limit. Lemon or orange slices are always an excellent choice. You can serve it with either of those plus a couple maraschino cherries thrown in for good measure.
For something more floral and fancy, orchid blossoms will look incredible and add that WOW-factor. But if that’s too much for you, mint sprigs will add that herbal, bespoke touch.
