  • Chop the Turmeric– Wash the turmeric knobs in running water and pat them dry. Chop them into small pieces and reserve them for later use
  • Juice the Orange – Take 3 oranges and cut them in half. Squeeze the juice from the fruit using a handheld juicer and reserve them for later use. I have used fresh oranges here but you can also use 100% real fruit orange juice that is sugar-free
  • Juice the Lemon – Cut the three lemons in half and squeeze the juice from it
  • Blend the Ingredients Now in a blender jar, add the chopped turmeric, ginger, lemon juice, orange juice, and water. Close the lid and blend until everything turns smooth on a blender
  • Filter – Remove and filter the turmeric ginger mixture using a fine-mesh strainer. Make sure to mix well to extract the last drop of juice from the mixture

    • Cocoa Powder – Unsweetened Cocoa powder works well for this recipe
    • Condensed Milk – Gives rich flavor to your drink
    • Vanilla Essence – To enhance the flavor of the drink
    • Spices – Paprika or chili powder and cinnamon powder delivers a perfect warmness and heat to your drink
    • Milk – I have used full fat milk here, but you can also use non-dairy milk like almond milk, oat milkor others for a vegan friendly version of this drink

    I have made this homemade Mexican Hot Chocolate with semi-sweetened chocolate and unsweetened cocoa powder. Even though the authentic recipe calls for Mexican Chocolate tabillas(chocolate tablets) I have used only the chocolate chips that I got from my local grocery stores. For a slight spice, I have used paprika and cinnamon powder.

    • Mix all the chocolate ingredients – In a saucepan with medium heat, pour milk and add chocolate chips and cocoa powder. Mix well until everything dissolves
