Energy drinks are undoubtedly the go-to companions of many athletes, especially since they give an effective boost that can help them get through heavy workout sessions.

But the young ones who are regularly playing sports may just be having their first taste of energy drinks. Just to be clear, we don’t recommend caffeine for minors since caffeine can have detrimental effects on them.

However, if you’re 18 and above and wondering which energy drink is right for you, let me run through the many brands that will take you to the next spectacular level!

Effects of Energy Drinks on the Body

Caffeine, which is included in almost all energy drinks, can provide you with a short-term energy boost.

However, you should also know that aside from caffeine, the majority of energy drinks are loaded with sugar and other additives. While energy drinks may provide you with a quick boost in energy, they may also come with other troubles.

Some of the most common side effects of energy drinks are as follows:

These side effects may vary from short-term discomfort to long-term complications, some of which may even be catastrophic. Thus I recommend that you take time to do research about the ingredients that come with the energy drink that you want to try and drink them in moderation.

What Do Athletes Drink for Energy?

If you’re having trouble staying awake and focused at your training, consider one of the following beverages to help you receive the extra kick you need.

As a young athlete, training doesn’t really guarantee you’re done for the day just because you’ve finished your practice. Schoolwork often still gets in the way, and with that, these drinks will surely help you ace your day with a smile.


Water should be your best friend especially when you’re training. Along with helping in the upkeep of your body’s hydration, drinking water provides a healthier option than sugar-sweetened drinks.

In addition, if you do not consume enough fluids to restore the water you lost when you sweat throughout your training, chances are you’d get dehydrated.

Hence, I strongly advise you to drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your training to avoid unwanted effects on your body.

Sports Drinks

By giving energy to active muscles, sports drinks may help you perform longer and stronger in your training. In fact, if you engage in high-intensity physical exercise for an extended period, you may greatly benefit from drinking sports drinks.

With that, it’s still vital for you to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration, which may lead to heat-related sickness and diminish your ability to perform your desired sport.

Despite the availability of several sports drinks, I’d still go with water. It’s best to steer clear of sugary drinks and fizzy beverages, which may wreak havoc on your body.

Energy Drinks

As a young athlete practicing for the sports leagues, you’ll need to put in more time and effort to get that trophy or medals you’re dreaming of. Because of this, you will energy drinks to stay awake and focused.

While energy drinks are popular and may definitely help you feel more energized in just a short time, they also pose dangers in experiencing adverse side effects.

There are a lot of dubious substances in energy drinks. You must be wary of them, especially if you are young. Accordingly, I advise against drinking energy drinks if you’re under the age of 18 to avoid these unwanted side effects.

What is the Healthiest Drink for Athletes?

When it comes to hydration, nothing beats plain old water. As easy as drinking plenty of water may seem, it does wonders to your body and affects almost every facet of your physical performance, even if you don’t realize it.

One to two hours before practice is the best time to replenish. In fact, body warmth and joint lubrication are improved by regular drinking of water.

Not only that, but it aids in the absorption of nutrients, which provides you with energy and keeps you in peak physical condition. If you don’t drink enough water, your body won’t be able to do its best work, and I can only imagine the frustration that comes with it when you’re a young athlete.

Is it Bad to Drink Energy Drinks at a Young Age?

When consumed in excess, energy drinks may have several detrimental impacts on kids. In light of the popularity of energy drinks among adolescents and young adults, it’s only sensible to wonder about the possible health risks of excessive use of these drinks.

As a result, I must stress the need to limit the number of energy drinks you consume, particularly with teens (18-19 years old), to prevent the negative consequences of an energy drink.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not so much the energy drinks themselves that are harmful as that is the excessive consumption of them is what you need to watch out for.

Again, I strongly recommend not to drink energy drinks when you are below 18 years old.

Top Selling Sports Drinks

It’s obvious why Gatorade is the most popular sports drink on the market. Athletes who take Gatorade will perform and recover at their best on the ground.

As we all know, our body loses much more than sweat after strenuous exercise. Electrolytes like sodium, chloride, potassium, and magnesium are also excreted when you sweat.

Now, this is where Gatorade comes into play.

Gatorade contains a lot of sodium, which is vital for the body’s water level. A serving of one of these beverages has roughly 140 calories, typically measured in 20-ounce amounts.

If your exercise is less than 90 minutes, you can typically get away with drinking good old-fashioned water for refreshment. However, if you’re exercising for an extended period, you may require electrolytes which you can find on Gatorade.

Fortunately, there are many Gatorade flavors to choose from these days.

As promised, here are my top picks of energy drinks for young athletes, with REIZE as my personal favorite.

In the case of young athletes, Red Bull can provide an additional burst of energy. I wouldn’t suggest this if it wasn’t for its good caffeine content and the fact that it is the most popular energy drink.

Red Bull has 80mg of caffeine and 27g of sugar in each can. Even teenagers themselves may benefit from Red Bull’s caffeine level. If you think you can’t handle that much caffeine you can limit yourself to half a can to be on the safe side, share it with a friend.

However, Red Bull costs around $2 for a can of 8.4fl.oz, which is a bit pricey, but it’s still fair compared to other energy drinks out there.

Amino Energy Drink

Fortunately, Amino It is sugar-free, so it’s less likely that you’ll go over your daily sugar intake, but it does 100 milligrams of caffeine which is considered moderately high.

I recommend Amino for young athletes who desire a more potent energy source. If you’re a young adult athlete, it’s not even close to your maximum caffeine consumption, so you may take more for an additional boost.

If you’re a fan of energy drinks, keep in mind that they come with their own set of drawbacks. For its price, depending on where you purchase it, Amino may cost around two dollars.

It’s now on par with Red Bull in terms of pricing, which I think is reasonable since it provides you with a different set of flavors and benefits.

REIZE is an excellent choice for young athletes who want to play to win. REIZE outperforms the competition thanks to its sugar-free formula and low caffeine content!

Bauman’s Cider Company’s McIntosh Single Varietal

My brother-in-law asked me if it was really a good idea to prune apple trees in the winter. It seemed to him that cutting the limbs during the freezing temperatures would put more stress on the tree. I can understand why he might feel this way. This weather is difficult for many of us mammals. It would seem more insulting to injury to require an organism to endure not only months of freezing temperatures but to heal new wounds at the same time. Fortunately, that’s not quite the case. We may learn a lesson from the trees that go dormant at this time of year. It’s okay to rest. This is a good time of the year to dump what we don’t need.

I may have strayed too far from the cider review, but that’s where I’m at now. I run in hardcore winter mode. I do the things I need to do and some warm up my spirits, but I mostly just hang around until the days get a little longer. But luckily for me, I can enjoy semi-hibernation with some good cider. This week, I’m sharing my thoughts on the McIntosh Single Varietal from Bauman’s Cider Company.

Bauman’s Cider Cidery small cider company has been named to GLINTCAP for the year 2021. The headquarters is located in Gervais Oregon. The cemetery was established in a small family farm and orchard by Christine Walter whose journey in cider attempts to balance family tradition and expertise with modern scientific knowledge.

I’ve only reviewed one Bowman’s juice before, the Mountain Rosé. I made my top ten list for 2020. This raises my expectations.

We started by importing McIntosh apples grown by our McIntosh Cider Our friends are in Petrotrot Valley, Montana. We do minimal intervention so it is necessary The apple flavor shines through, as we leave a little leftover sweetness for rich presentation Apple flavor and aroma.

Appearance: Tuscany yellow, shiny, few bubbles

When looking at the color schemes of shades, this is very similar to Tuscany yellow. It gives that sunny warmth. The cider is great with just a few visible bubbles.

Flavors: apple juice, cherry blossom, cinnamon and peach

McIntosh is very aromatic and full of juicy apples. The nose also features elements that evoke cherry blossom, cinnamon, and peach.

Sweetness / Dryness: semi-sweet

I’d call it semi-sweet, but some people might interpret it as more like semi-dry. The sweetness is pleasant and well integrated.

Experiment with flavors and drink: juice, crunchy, apple, tart

This is a treat! The McIntosh Single Varietal from Bauman’s Cider Company makes me happy that I chose it for my cider today. The first impression is plenty of ultra-fresh malic acid, which makes every sip crunchy and delicious. Apple juice tastes more directly like apples than most of the people I drink. It capitalizes on the fruity, sweet and juicy experience of fully ripe Macintosh apples.

There’s more to this apple juice than just instant fruit. The McIntosh is a light tan with the texture of coarse sandpaper. I love this thing about him. It has clean fermentation. There is no whiff of funk. I appreciate McIntosh’s medium intensity of shine and massive body. This cider stays fun from end to end with its honeyy finish. My high expectations were fully met!

Cheers to enjoying good cider while not doing too much. This is a very convenient way to beat the winter.

Ingredients for a Love Mocktail

You don’t need much to make a love mocktail. In fact, you can create this delicious non alcoholic drink with just four main ingredients. Here is what you will need and a little bit about each ingredient:

  • Cranberry Juice– The cranberry juice you find in the grocery store is usually a cranberry cocktail. This is totally fine! In fact, it is often a little sweeter than pure cranberry juice. Pure cranberry juice or cranberry juice cocktail will work in this mocktail recipe.
  • Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice– We like ruby ​​red grapefruit juice due to it’s pretty color. Ruby red juice is a brighter, pinker color than regular grapefruit juice. It is more the color of love!
  • Monin Raspberry Syrup– Any kind of raspberry simple syrup will work. We like the Monin raspberry syrup because it has a very strong, natural taste. It is also a pretty pink color which matches our love theme!
  • Lime Juice– Fresh lime juice adds a lot of bright, tangy flavor to the drink.

How to Rim a Cocktail Glass with Sugar

Adding a sugared rim to a cocktail glass is very easy. Once you learn how to add a sugared rim to a glass, you may start sugaring all your drinks! Here is what you need to do:

  1. Pour a little sugar on a plate or shallow dish. You want the sugar to be about ⅛ of an inch deep. Deeper sugar will go up the rim of the glass more, giving you better sugar coverage.
  2. Rub a lime or lemon wedge around the rim of the glass. This will wet the rim so that the sugar will stick to it.
  3. Flip the glass upside down and dip the wet glass rim into the sugar. The sugar should stick right to the glass!
  4. Pour your mocktail or cocktail mix into the sugar rimmed glass, being sure not to pour the drink over the rim and ruin the pretty sugar rim.
  5. Enjoy!

If you want to make a salt rimmed glass, you can follow the exact same steps, just use salt instead! Larger flaked salt like Kosher salt or sea salt work best. Coarse sanding sugar works best for making sugar rimmed glasses. Look for flavored sugars or colored sugar for an even more fun drink! Fresh Juice for Drinks

If you are feeling extra ambitious, you can add a little bit more love to this mocktail by making your own juice. You can make fresh cranberry juice or freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice. Here is a quick look at how to make the fresh juices you need to create this tasty drink.

Make Homemade Grapefruit Juice– Buy a large grapefruit that is a little soft when you squeeze it. You want the grapefruit to give a little under your fingers which indicates that it is nice and juicy inside.

Slice the grapefruit in half horizontally and then squeeze the grapefruit over a fine mesh sieve and bowl. The sieve will strain out any seeds and pulp while the bowl catches the tasty juice. Chill the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice until you are ready to use it!

Make Homemade Cranberry Juice- Add one pound of cranberries and four cups of water to a bowl. Bring the water to a boil. Boil the berries until they burst. The skins should crack and the berry will look like it exploded.

Pour the hot cranberry juice through a fine mesh sieve. Discard the berries and keep the juice! Let it chill in the fridge until you are ready to use it to make our love mocktail.

Making homemade juice can be a tasty way to make this drink even better. The fresh flavors will definitely be noticeable. Keep in mind that fresh juice only lasts about 3-4 days in the fridge. That means you will need to drink up!

I discovered ashwagandha when trying out different herbal remedies for stress relief. My first experience was with tea and I was blown away by how relaxed it made me feel. As a result, I decided to do more research and find other ways to incorporate this amazing adaptogen into my daily routine.

What is Ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), is a medicinal herb that has been used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine for its wide ranging health benefits. It is also known as Indian ginseng or winter-cherry . 1

Ashwagandha is a short evergreen shrub with little red berries, and is mainly used for its roots, which hold the bulk of its medicinal power. Typically, the roots are harvested by hand and left to dry in the sun before being transported to a facility where they are turned into powder, tea, or extracts.

Health Benefits of Ashwagandha

A powerful adaptogen, ashwagandha is good for enhancing the body’s resilience to stress. In addition to its adaptogenic qualities, this potent herb also provides many other health benefits, such as reducing inflammation, increasing muscle strength, improving memory and may even fight against cancer.

Reduces Stress & Anxiety

Since I started taking an ashwagandha supplement daily, I noticed my stress and anxiety levels have decreased. As a result, I feel much more relaxed and easy going. Studies also prove this, that ashwagandha helps to reduce stress and anxiety and improve the overall well-being of adults under stress. 2 In a study that lasted for two months, people with chronic stress who were given ashwagandha reported a 69% reduction in anxiety and insomnia. 3

Reduces Inflammation

Initially I started taking ashwagandha for its stress relieving benefits, but I grew to love it even more for its anti-inflammatory benefits. While I have experienced a decrease in inflammation and joint pain and am a living testament to its efficacy, there are also several animal studies that have shown that ashwagandha reduces inflammation. 4, 5

Increases Strength

Studies show that ashwagandha increases muscle mass, reduces body fat, and increases strength in healthy men. 6, 7

Improves Memory

Ashwagandha has been taken for centuries for its support of cognitive functions and recent studies support this method. For instance, an 8-week study found that taking ashwagandha extract twice a day improved memory, task performance, and attention span. 8, In addition, another study found that daily supplementation of the root extract helped healthy men with task performance and reaction time. 9

Fights Cancer

Studies have shown that one of ashwagandha’s compounds helps to kill cancer cells and keeps cancer cells from growing. 10 Research suggests that it may help treat several types of cancer. 11, 12, 13, 14

Ashwagandha grows in India, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. It does grow wild, but it is also cultivated to meet the growing demand as a dietary supplement.

How To Use Ashwagandha

Traditionally, ashwagandha was mixed with honey and ghee and either ingested or applied topically for help with inflammation. Today, adding to juice, smoothies, and snacks are some of the best ways to incorporate this adaptogen into your daily life. It is available in whole form, powder, and extract form.

Ashwagandha has a bitter-sweet flavor and is sometimes described as “energetically warming”. You might not like it the first time you try it, however, give it some time, you might grow to actually like the taste like I have.

When To Take Ashwagandha & How Much

The type of health benefit you are hoping to gain by taking ashwagandha can help determine your dosage. There have been studies performed to find the daily dosage levels that provide the different health benefits.

  • To reduce stress and anxiety, daily doses of 500-600 mg for 6-12 weeks has shown to be effective in some people. 3
  • If you are looking to reduce inflammation, research shows that a daily supplement of 250-500 mg may help. 15
  • To increase muscle growth and strength, daily ashwagandha supplements of 500-1,250 mg have been shown to work in as little as 30 days. 6, 7
  • Supplementing 500-600 mg of ashwagandha per day can help boost your memory and help you stay focused and perform better on tasks. 8, 9

Ashwagandha is believed to be safe and effective for most people at dosages of 250-500 mg per day for at least a month. However, your dosage may vary depending on your needs.

For the past three months, I have been taking one dropper full of ashwagandha extract (780 mg) every morning and sometimes one or two more times throughout the day, depending on how I feel.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or on medication, you may need to avoid taking this medicinal herb. Before adding supplements to your diet, you should consult with your doctor to make sure it is safe for you to consume.

Ashwagandha Recipes

I find that drinking tea and adding ashwagandha extract to my daily anti-inflammatory juice helps combat my rheumatoid arthritis and keeps me feeling relaxed and stress-free all day long.

Anti-inflammatory juice recipe

  • Yield: About one 12 oz serving


  • Pineapple – 6.37 oz (1 cup chunked pineapple)
  • Green apple – 6.5 oz (1 medium apple)
  • Spinach – 1.9 oz (2 cups spinach)
  • Cucumber – 1.8 oz (1/5 cucumber)
  • Celery – 0.85 oz (2/3 medium stalk)
  • Lemon – 0.83 oz (1/4 lemon)
  • Ginger – 0.3 oz (1 inch chunk of ginger root)
  • Ashwagandha extract – 0.5 ml (one serving)


  1. Wash and weigh the produce.
  2. Prep the pineapple by removing the green crown and cut into chunks, the skin on if you have a leaving juice press.
  3. Quarter the lemon (leaving skin on) and place directly into the press. If you don’t have a juice press, peel the lemon and juice with the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Grind remaining ingredients together and press.
  5. Add the ashwagandha extract to the juice.

If you want a simpler version that is just as effective, make this ginger shot recipe. I drink 8 ounces of this juice every morning:

Performix SST Energy Seltzer – Blueberry Acai

SST stands for “Super Strength Technology” which I found after searching the site. Like I said in the video, this is another vitamin and exercise supplement company trying to break into the energy drink game. I may not give them enough credit for this statement because they may have been around for a long time.

right Now! To cover components that I didn’t know from the video because I was totally interested in them.

Lion’s Mane Mushroom Extract is an extract that comes from Lion’s Mane Mushroom (Big Shock). The mushroom itself looks rather elegant because it is very frilly. The health benefits of this (alleged) mushroom revolve around brain activity. It is supposed to help the nervous system by preventing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. It’s also supposed to protect you from a whole host of other cancers, too. For the purpose of this drink, I think its inclusion is to activate the brain. We’ve seen a similar ingredient with CoQ10 or C4’s Cognizin.

Huperzia Serrata is a type of algae that grows in Asian countries. What the healthy nuts want out of this moss is Huperzia A which is the kind of alkaline thing that works again with the nervous stuff. does it work? Sorta. It also causes you to feel sick and have bowel movements. Seeing notes saying that if you take too much, you may be poisoning yourself, so…excuse me?

Barberry hydrochloride (which also doesn’t appear to be a misspelling) is another alternative extract used in ancient Chinese medicine that comes from the barberry plant. Helps with intestinal inflammation. Probably the same inflammation you’d get from taking this Huperzia stuff. What do you do in this energy drink? I really do not know.

Pyrroloquinoline Quinone or PQQ is henceforth considered a type of longevity vitamin. It can be found naturally in fruits and vegetables such as kiwi and green peppers as well as breast milk. It seems that scientists are not 100% sure how it helps the human body but it does. It probably has something to do with antioxidants.

A lot of this stuff is pop science stuff. I will give it to them to try new things. Will it work for you? Who do you know?

What I do know is that this tastes terrible and I don’t think these potential health benefits (or harms) are worth me drinking this thing again. There are plenty of other sugar-free energy drinks out there that taste a lot better.

With every new year comes new ideas, new resolutions and new goals. For cider makers, I’m sure that also includes new ciders to produce, and perhaps newer varieties of apples to try. Every month at InCider Insights, I ask one question to three creatives so we can all compare the similarities and differences between two artists of the same craft. This month’s question talks about the possibilities that come with each new year.

Making cider in Sonoma County meant using candy apples (local Grafnstein), so I never understood what the “cider” apple discussions were about or why it mattered. Gravensteins can make great cider, full of spice and floral notes, so I kind of dismissed the whole idea of ​​apple variety being relatively stale.

This idea was pressed last month when I received a call from two different heritage gardeners in Mendocino asking if I wanted to use their fruits. When the juice was pressed from an Oz farm I was frankly shocked, I think there was a hole in the floor in the cemetery where my jaw dropped after tasting the juice from a mix of 40 apples special for cider. It immediately turned out that there was nothing to argue about; Spices, earthy tannins, acids and oh Delicious flavors! This co-op cider is almost over and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever had the privilege of tasting, let alone making.

I also brew a tank of Wickson Crabs from Biodynamic Certified Filigreen Farms which is nothing short of cosmic. I look forward to working closely with both orchards in the future and sharing real cider with the community!

Making cider in Japan means working primarily with table apples. I was really happy with the quality of the fruit we used, but there is not much difference between the cultivars and the fruit. Every once in a while, something does stand out.

When the cliff was still just an idea on paper, I found a small deep red apple at a local farmer’s market. her name was Arupusu Otome, or “Alps Maiden”. Next to the larger table apples, the Alpine Maiden immediately caught my attention. I knew it was an apple I wanted to make cider with.

So far, I have not yet worked with Alps Maiden. It is produced on a very small scale in Iwate Prefecture, and our standard suppliers simply do not grow it.

As a little mould, each season brings new and fun opportunities. I wouldn’t be surprised to find myself with a tank of Alps Maiden brewing in a rough season soon.

Dabenet. Until recently, there was a long list of apples that I didn’t have access to but wanted to make cider with. Fortunately, four years ago we partnered with Lewis Creek Farms to grow our very own cider orchard. The orchard contains a wide variety of American Heirloom, French and English apple varieties.

Unfortunately, this season, due to the late freezing, local orchards lost 85% of the apple harvest. The one apple we grow but can’t harvest is Dabinett. This, along with Kingston Black, is one of the most popular British ciders. It is a bittersweet apple that has a good proportion of sugar and tannin.

Next season we hope to have a good harvest of Dabinet and English cider apples. If so, we will be releasing a British mix as part of the new Orchard Reserve series. This year we launched cider made with American and French apples from The New Orchard.

Blood Orange Mocktail Spritzer – The Mindful Mocktail

This gorgeous blood orange mocktail recipe is so simple to make and just divine to drink. With fresh blood orange juice, lime juice and your choice of alcohol free wine or ginger beer, you can whip this up in minutes.

I just had to make the most of blood orange season, so I bring you this deliciously easy and refreshing blood orange mocktail.

Easy: With only 3 ingredients, you can make this virgin cocktail with no bartending experience needed.

Fast: make it under a minute. You don’t even need a shaker, just assemble it right in the glass – it even saves the extra washing up!

Glorious to look at: oh blood orange, you are just so pretty. This divine color reminds me of a spritz or something equally delicious. Garnish with something green for a special touch.

Has nutritional benefits: With freshly squeezed blood orange juice and lime, you’ll get an extra kick of vitamin C in this easy mocktail.

If you live somewhere that is lucky enough to have blood oranges in season over Christmas, this alcohol-free cocktail would be a perfect festive drink.

But if not, no worries.

You can just freeze some fresh-squeezed blood orange juice into an ice cube tray and keep it in the freezer to make Christmas mocktails!

What are Blood Oranges?

As you can see from the photos, blood oranges look similar to any other orange on the outside.

But it’s what’s inside that counts here. When you slice open a blood orange, you’ll see it has a deep red color inside. The juice also comes out red, thanks to anthocyanin, a pigment that this fruit contains.

Because of that pigment, the color develops when blood oranges ripen during warm days while the nights are cool. That’s pretty neat!

And here’s something else…blood oranges are usually easier to peel than other types of oranges. They tend to have fewer seeds too.

But they come with a warning – they make a mess! Avoid getting the juice near any porous material because it will stain.

What Do They Taste Like?

Blood oranges are also sweeter than those other oranges, which is why they are perfect for a non alcoholic cocktail.

To describe the taste, I’d say they’re less tangy than other oranges and are more floral with a hint of tartness in the flavour. Some say they taste like orange juice with raspberry or cranberry added in. Best of all, they’re not sour so they are a wonderful fruit to use for any drink.

The juice comes out red so that’s why it’s a timely beverage to put on your Christmas gathering list. This would even be a great mocktail for kids (just be sure to use the ginger beer instead of the alcohol free wine).

How to Make a Blood Orange Mocktail

You’ll only need 3 ingredients to make this delicious non alcoholic drink!

Blood orange juice: I always recommend freshly squeezed juice because it tastes the best! Of course you can squeeze it a couple of hours in advance if you like. This is especially handy if you’re making it for guests.

Lime juice: again, I recommend freshly squeezed but if you only have bottled, that works too.

Alcohol free rose or ginger beer: Personally I prefer this with alcohol free rosè to make it a true wine spritzer. But if you don’t have any (or you like ginger beer better!), go for ginger beer.

How to make it

First, you’ll fill a large wine glass with ice. Add a fresh blood orange slice inside. Push it against the glass so it can be seen from the outside.

Next, add the blood orange juice followed by the lime juice and your alcohol-free Rosé. Then, stir it together gently. Before serving, grab a sprig of rosemary to garnish it for a pop of color that puts red and green together for the holidays.

If you’re not a fan or rosemary or can’t find it, don’t fret. Anything green will do here – try thyme, mint or even basil.

  • Boil the water – In a saucepan with medium heat, pour water and bring it to boil
  • Add in the ingredients – Now add the turmeric, ginger, crushed peppercorn, and lemon slices
  • Brew the tea – Simmer the heat, close the pan with its lid and brew it for 5 minutes
  • Remove – Now open the lid and remove the turmeric tea from the heat
  • Filter – Filter the Turmeric Tea into a serving glass and add honey or maple syrup. Now the comforting Turmeric Tea is ready for you to taste and enjoy

In Episode #060, we learn that TJ Humphreys has joined Nic Stella at RYSE Supps, and they have new flavors (Smarties and Bazooka) as well as an energy drink (RYSE Fuel) coming!

Our first podcast of 2022 came with some excellent news: TJ Humphreys has joined Nic Stella at RYSE Supps. Many supplement industry veterans know TJ from his days as CEO and owner of ProSupps, but now he’s taken on a leadership role in Dallas, TX as President and Partner.

From a distance, TJ has been watching RYSE Supps punch its way into the space and then become a best-selling brand at a top retailer in the country (Vitamin Shoppe). This follows previous power moves where creative superstar Greg Helton also joined RYSE as VP.

In this episode, we first introduce TJ and then have him talk about his background. After that, we discuss the new stuff coming from RYSE (which includes an energy drink!), and then get into distribution and RYSE’s incredible social media strategy that’s taken them to the next level.

TJ Humphreys now at RYSE Supps

TJ’s been in the industry for over 20 years, starting at Lone Star Distribution (which was merged with Europa Sports). He started ProSupps in early 2012, coming out with the famous Hyde pre workout. It was eventually time for a new, more aggressive endeavors:

TJ explains how much “dumb tax” he’s paid in his 20 years of learning experience – he’s retail become an expert in dealing withers, international sales opportunities, shipping, manufacturing, distribution, and more. This is the expertise that he can pass down to Nic.

At RYSE, Nic has created a rocket ship, and TJ is making sure he has the right people on the train, and a lot of it will be with his retail expertise. They already have meetings lined up with some major FDM (Food, Drug, and Mass Market) companies and are going in with a serious tailwind due to Nic’s incredible job on the web and in social media.

The trifecta of Nic, TJ, and Greg Helton covers numerous parts of the market, ranging across social media, retail, international, design, compliance, manufacturing, and supply chain.

New product development at RYSE

RYSE is putting out an energy drink (named RYSE Fuel on their social media page), and while TJ recognizes that many energy drink consumers are brand-agnostic, they can make a better approach through specialty stores first. This will eventually lead to larger energy drink sales at FDM — but TJ’s sure to note that major chains are already very interested.

RYSE’s collabs with SunnyD and Ring Pop (which are currently the top two selling pre workouts at Vitamin Shoppe) are definitely driving much of the international and big-business interest, but it’s important to note that these products are most often first popular at supplement-specific stores before major players get involved.


RYSE Fuel Teaser

Coming in early 2022: The RYSE Fuel Energy Drink

Similarly, RYSE Fuel will first be driven by these flavor collabs – the SunnyD flavor will get its own unique can. It will have 200 milligrams of caffeine and 500 milligrams of CDP-choline, so it will definitely feel very good but not hit overly hard. The cans look incredible, just like RYSE’s supplements, so the retailers that have seen the mockups and labels are already in.

Learning from past mistakes

TJ’s history with ProSupps’ former energy drink, Hyde Power Potion, and their attempted partnership with DJ Khaled, brings a ton of experience to the energy drink launch as well. As opposed to a major name not in the fitness space, RYSE leans heavily on Noel Deyzel, who they talk highly about.

More licenses, pre workout flavors, and protein flavors coming

Nic is sure to explain that more flavors and licenses are coming to the RYSE lineup. Two examples are Smarties and Bazooka, which will be coming in early 2022.

We go through RYSE’s pre workout lineup and discuss the differences, where the Godzilla pre workout is by far the strongest and highest-dosed one, while Project Blackout emphasizes higher stimulants and nitrates, and the standard RYSE Pre Workout emphasizes the citrulline.

Reaching the younger generation

Project Blackout Pre does not disappoint, but if you need to get even crazier, wait until you see the Godzilla pre workout!

RYSE does incredibly well in the 18-30 demographic, while many of the brands covered on PricePlow are in a slightly older range 25-40. Nic has a very popular TikTok page (, with plenty of videos with over 100k views.

On TikTok, we’ve seen a lot of old trends become new again, so Nic is adamant about keeping the supplements to ingredients that are backed by research.
